Non-copers Have Greater Pain-Related Fear of Re-injury after ACL Rupture Compared to Potential Copers

چکیده

Introduction: After anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, potential copers (PCs) and non-copers (NCs) are differentiated based on functional ability and knee stability. Due to frequent episodes of the knee giving way, rehabilitation specialists recommend NCs undergo ACL reconstruction (ACLR) prior to the resumption of sport activities. Some PCs opt to have non-operative management while others chose ACLR. PCs who choose non-operative management receive neuromuscular rehabilitation to increase their success in dynamically stabilizing their knee during challenging tasks. Fear of movement/reinjury is measured using the shortened version of the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK-11) questionnaire. After ACLR, TSK-11 scores have been found to be inversely related to function and to decrease over time. . It is unknown if TSK-11 scores differ between NCs and PCs who choose ACLR or non-operative management, and how TSK-11 scores are associated with function in these cohorts.

Perturbation training improves knee kinematics and reduces muscle co-contraction after complete unilateral anterior cruciate ligament rupture.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Dynamic knee stabilization strategies of people who successfully compensate for the absence of an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) ("copers") are different from those of people who do not compensate well for the injury ("noncopers"). Early after injury, certain patients ("potential copers") can increase the likelihood of successfully compensating for the injury by partici...

Movement patterns after anterior cruciate ligament injury: a comparison of patients who compensate well for the injury and those who require operative stabilization

The purpose of this study was to describe kinematic and kinetic differences between a group of ACL deficient subjects who were grouped according to functional ability. Sixteen patients with complete ACL rupture were studied; eight subjects had instability with activities of daily living (non-copers) and eight subjects had returned to all pre-injury activity without limitation (copers). Three-di...

Quadriceps Srength and Neuromuscular Strategies Continue to Improve Two Years after Acl Reconstruction

After anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture, some individuals demonstrate the ability to dynamically stabilize their injured knee (potential copers). The majority of ACL deficient individuals, however, are classified as non-copers; they have knee instability with daily activities, exhibit quadriceps weakness, and have altered movement patterns. Prior to surgery, non-copers have been shown to...

Identifying individuals with an anterior cruciate ligament-deficient knee as copers and noncopers: a narrative literature review.

STUDY DESIGN Narrative literature review. OBJECTIVES First, to explore the differences and outcomes between individuals who have had anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction and those who did not undergo surgical intervention, following a tear of the ACL. Second, to review the evidence related to the ability to identify individuals who may or may not need surgery after an ACL rupture. ...

Individuals with an anterior cruciate ligament-deficient knee classified as noncopers may be candidates for nonsurgical rehabilitation.

STUDY DESIGN Prospective cohort study. OBJECTIVES First, to classify a group of individuals with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)-deficient knee as potential copers or potential noncopers, based on an established screening examination. Second, to prospectively follow a cohort of individuals with an ACL injury and characterize the nonoperatively treated subjects as true copers and true nonc...
